Towards Calibrating a Pan-Tilt-Zoom Camera Network

چکیده
In this paper we discuss the problem of recovering the calibration of a network of pan-tilt-zoom cameras. The intrinsic parameters of each camera over its full range of zoom settings are estimated through a two step procedure. We first determine the intrinsic parameters at the camera's lowest zoom setting very accurately by capturing an extended panorama. Our model includes two parameters of radial distortion. The camera intrinsics and radial distortion parameters are then determined at discrete steps in a monotonically increasing zoom sequence that spans the full zoom range of the cameras. Both steps are fully automatic and do not assume any knowledge of the scene structure. We validate our approach by calibrating two different types of pan tilt zoom cameras placed in an outdoor environment. We also show the high-resolution panoramic mosaics built from the images captured during this process. We present an approach for accurate computation of the epipolar geometry based on the full panorama instead of individual image pairs. Finally, we briefly discuss how this can be used to compute the ex-trinsics for all the cameras and how our approach can be used in the context of active camera networks.

A Two-point Method for PTZ Camera Calibration in Sports
Calibrating narrow field of view soccer cameras is challenging because there are very few field markings in the image. Unlike previous solutions, we propose a two-point method, which requires only two point correspondences given the prior knowledge of base location and orientation of a pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera. We deploy this new calibration method to annotate pan-tilt-zoom data from soccer v...
متن کاملExploiting distinctive visual landmark maps in pan-tilt-zoom camera networks
Pan–tilt–zoom (PTZ) camera networks have an important role in surveillance systems. They have the ability to direct the attention to interesting events that occur in the scene. One method to achieve such behavior is to use a process known as sensor slaving: one (or more) master camera monitors a wide area and tracks moving targets so as to provide the positional information to one (or more) sla...

متن کاملElectronic Pan-Tilt-Zoom: A Solution for Intelligent Room Systems
Choosing the appropriate type of video input is an important issue for any vision-based system and the right decision must take into account the specific requirements of the intended application. We present GlobeAll, a modular four-component prototype for a vision-based Intelligent Room: a video input component that uses an electronic pan-tilt-zoom camera array, a background learning and foregr...
متن کاملCalibrating a pan-tilt camera head
This paper describes a method for calibrating a pan-tilt camera head. The key feature of the method is that the camera, the pan-tilt unit, and the relationship between the camera and the pan-tilt unit, are calibrated independently. This paper develops a geometric model of the pan-tilt camera head and presents procedures to estimate the values of the unknown model parameters. Target image reposi...
